Spaced repetition, AI tutor, practice exams, and full Anki interop. Everything you need for Step 1, Step 2, and clerkships — in one tool that actually fits your schedule.
We built MEDBOARD because Anki is powerful but painful, UWorld is expensive but shallow, and neither of them talks to the other. MEDBOARD is the one we wished existed in M1.
Choose between SM-2 (classic, familiar) and FSRS-4.5 (modern, science-backed). Both track mastery per card and schedule reviews when you're about to forget — no earlier.
Stuck on a card? Claude explains the mechanism, walks you through clinical reasoning, and ties it back to First Aid. Not just flashcards — a study partner.
USMLE-paced timed blocks built from your deck. Review every question afterward — see what you got wrong, filter by flagged, read the explanation. No more "wait, which one did I miss?"
Hide parts of anatomy diagrams, histology slides, or ECGs. Click to reveal. Test yourself on the exact structures you keep forgetting.
Import your .apkg with all SR state intact (not just text — EF, intervals, reps, images, all of it). Export to .apkg for AnkiMobile. Study on the subway, sync back. Years of work preserved.
Forgetting curve predictions, heatmap of daily reviews, topic-level mastery matrix, and a USMLE score estimate that updates as you study. See exactly where you're weak.
Live quiz rooms with your study group. Join with a 5-letter code, answer in real time, see the leaderboard. For educators: class cohorts with mastery rollups and shared deck assignments.
Study on the subway. Grade on a flight. Everything queues locally and syncs cleanly when you're online. Web Push reminders keep your streak alive.
Add Step 1, Step 2 CK, and shelf dates. Get reminders 7 days, 1 day, and day-of. Export to Apple/Google Calendar with built-in alarms.
Paste your notes, import your existing Anki deck, or start from scratch. MEDBOARD handles the rest.
Upload an .apkg with all your SR state intact, import a Google Doc of lecture notes, or type a card manually. AI generates cards from notes in seconds.
Open MEDBOARD, review what's due. The scheduler shows you cards right before you'd forget them. 20 minutes a day beats 4 hours on Sunday.
See your retention curve, predicted score, and topic-level weaknesses. Ask the AI tutor when you're stuck. Adjust your study plan based on real data.
What we say when other students ask us why MEDBOARD instead of the alternatives.
Anki is powerful but brutal. Configuring it takes hours. Add-ons break on every update. No built-in AI, no real analytics, no exam mode. MEDBOARD does what Anki does — plus practice exams, image occlusion without an add-on, an AI tutor, and modern analytics. And because we support full .apkg import/export, you can keep using Anki on your phone if you want. Your decks move between them freely.
UWorld and Amboss are question banks. They're great for Step 1 prep in your dedicated period, but they don't help you retain anatomy you learned in M1 or biochem from M2. MEDBOARD is built for the full four years — it's the daily study tool that makes the question banks more effective when you get there.
If you've used Anki before and it worked, stay on SM-2 — it's what you know. If you're starting fresh or have noticed Anki gives you too many reviews, try FSRS. It needs about 30 reviews to calibrate, then consistently schedules 15-30% fewer reviews for the same retention. Switch in Settings → Study anytime. Your existing card state stays intact.
Yes. Native iOS and Android apps (App Store and Play Store). Plus the web app is a full PWA — install it from your mobile browser and it works offline. Study on the subway, grade on a flight, sync when you're back. Web Push notifications remind you when cards are due.
Bring them all. .apkg import preserves every card's SR state (EF, interval, reps, due date), all your images, all your tags, and every card's GUID. If you re-import the same deck after studying in Anki, we merge by GUID — keep the better SR state, never duplicate. You can literally move between MEDBOARD and AnkiMobile card-by-card without losing progress.
Yes. Teachers create a class with a 6-character join code. Students join, get access to shared deck assignments, and the teacher sees a mastery rollup — who's reviewed what, who's struggling with what topic. Live study rooms let any group of friends quiz each other in real time with a leaderboard.
The app is open source and self-hostable for free if you're technical. For everyone else, we're building a hosted version — pricing and launch details coming soon. Early access list below.
MEDBOARD was built by a small team who shipped it because the existing tools felt stuck in 2015. We're not a big company — that's intentional. You'll talk to a real person when you email us.
Sign up in 30 seconds. No credit card, no "start your trial" gimmick. Import your Anki deck and start studying.
